The Silicone Microwave Steriliser Bag is a 1500ml capacity bag, comes in grey, and is available in a 1-pack or 2-pack. It does not include a steam vent, so when using it for sterilisation, be sure to leave a 3–5 cm opening to allow steam to escape safely. In addition to sterilising, the bag can also be used for storing items in the fridge or freezer and features a foldable design for compact storage AND includes a convenient carry handle.
In comparison, the Multipurpose Steamer & Steriliser Bag has a range of size options: 900ml, 1500ml and 2000ml. It is also available in a variety of colour options in 1-packs or 2-packs. It includes a steam vent on the side which means you can seal the bag completely, as well as being able to use it for steaming food and sterilising other household items, making it truly versatile!
No, we do not recommend leaving water in the bag after sterilisation. Once the microwave sterilisation cycle is completed, we recommend using a towel or oven mitts to remove the bag, taking care to avoid the steam that will be emitted as this can lead to burns.
Slightly open the bag away from you, again taking care to avoid escaping steam, and pour the water out. If you need to use the sterilised items immediately, clean tongs should be used to remove them from the bag as they will be hot. Allow them to cool before using. If you do not need to use them immediately, you may wish to leave them in the bag, as long as all the water has been removed.
These bags are designed to use 100ml of water, and have a measuring line at the base for those who may not have quick access to a measuring cup. Do not overfill or underfill the water, as this will impact the effectiveness of sterilisation and may lead to the warping of the items in the bag.
TIP: If you have a clean breast pump you're sterilising, you can use this to measure out your 100ml of water!
This will depend on whether it is being used for sterilisation or (in the case of the Multipurpose Steamer & Steriliser Bag) steaming food. It will also vary according to your microwave's power. The included manual contains a handy timing guide for steaming food, but for sterilising your baby gear, try this:
If you aren't sure about the wattage of your microwave, try checking the back or contact the manufacturers.
These bags can be used for almost anything you choose to use bags for! Sterilise your baby gear or steam food (Multipurpose Steamer & Steriliser Bag only), or use them for storage to keep your salads, leftovers or other foods fresh in the fridge. Alternatively, they can be used to transport non-spillable contents wherever you need them!
Our Steriliser Bags are designed for microwave steam sterilisation; they require continual heat to create the steam in order to sterilise the contents of the bag. Simply pour 100ml of water into the bottom, pop in your items (bigger, heavier items first), seal (leaving a 3–5cm gap if using the bag without a steam vent), then microwave according to the timing guide that is most appropriate for your microwave.
The heat turns the water to steam which is contained within the bag. The Multipurpose Steamer & Steriliser Bags feature a steam valve to safely release any excess steam generated. If your bag does not have the vent, simply keep 3–5cm of the seal open at one end to serve the same function.
No, we don't recommend using sterilising tabs with our silicone products as they can discolour, create a sticky effect and can impact the life span of your silicone products. Steam alone is a highly effective sterilisation method and provided the instructions are followed will safely sterilise any microwave-safe items that fit inside the bag.
Some sterilisation tablets are known to oxidise with manganese and iron which can create the brown water you are experiencing. We can confirm that our Steriliser Bags do not contain manganese or iron; however, there are many variables which mean a bag may have been exposed to these elements.
This may include previous items the bag has contained, stored or sterilised such as cutlery or utensils. If your water is naturally high in these minerals, this may also have the same effect.
